About me

I am a freelance writer, proofreader, and editor. I recently made the liberating and scary commitment to build a creative career of my own, after many years spent in the corporate world of the software industry.

I previously worked as a technical writer for a software development company. While I am no longer pursuing that area of work, I believe that the discipline of writing technical documents on tight deadlines will serve me well in the future.

My mind likes to make connections between seemingly disparate topics and have something new pop out of it. I love working with symbolism and mythological content. I'm currently getting close to finishing a satiric book on corporate culture, while simultaneously seeking interesting paying gigs. My dream is to make a living writing fiction.

I'm currently writing under a pen name, Laura Serena. My interests include movies, books, fiction writing for both print and film media, and progressive political blogging.

Clips

The Flicks Files: War, Inc. (2008) --- My movie review of John Cusack's War, Inc. was featured on Mr. Cusack's MySpace blog. I was thrilled with this unexpected recognition by someone I consider to be one of the best actors of my generation.

The Trinity, Redemption, and John Cusack's War, Inc. --- After a second viewing, I wrote a deeper analysis of some of the scenes in War, Inc., which Mr. Cusack also cross-posted to his blog.

Brisingr (Christopher Paolini): A Book Review --- A review of the third book in Paolini's Inheritance cycle.

Book Review: The Political Mind --- My review of George Lakoff's The Political Mind

Astrology

Sirius Thoth (pronounced "serious thought") refers to Sirius, the dog star, and Thoth, the ancient Egyptian scribe of the Gods. Sirius is the brightest star in our sky and was worshipped in ancient Egypt as the bringer of the Nile flood and associated with the Goddess Isis. Thoth is the Egyptian equivalent of Mercury or Hermes and the patron God of writers.
