The Sun

The Sun

In astrology, the sun represents our essence, our life force. The sun is also illumination. The sun is the star that gives life to our solar system, and which all of the planets orbit around.

The sun is the personality ruler of the sign Leo.

Most horoscope columns that you will see in newspapers or magazines are sun sign horoscopes. If someone comes up to you and says "Hey, baby, what's your sign?", they are talking about your sun sign. Most of us know what our own sun sign is.

The sun sign is an important part of your horoscope, but it is not all there is to a horoscope, or to astrology. You've probably noticed that people who share the same sun sign can be very different. Obviously, we can't all fit neatly into 12 different personality categories. That would be boring!

You do have some of the characteristics of your sun sign, but they are modified by other elements in your natal chart, as well as the planets in the sky right now (transits). These influences combine to make you a unique person.

The sun moves through each zodiac sign once each year, starting with Aries at the spring equinox - the start of the astrological year. It is in each sign for one month. Listed below are the approximate dates the sun is in each zodiac sign every year. Please note that these dates change slightly each year. If you were born close to one of the cut-off dates, you may have to consult an astrologer to find out your actual sun sign.
