Our
Solar System

This
is a drawing of our solar system, showing the planets in their
orbits around the sun. Astrologically, the movement of the
planets causes action to occur. You may click on the
planets in the picture above to learn more about each one.
We
know that the planets in our solar system orbit our sun. From
the point of view of the earth, however, the planets appear
to move along the plane of the ecliptic, circling the earth.
The ecliptic is a ring around the earth which contains the
constellations of the zodiac.
In
astrology, we count the sun and moon as planets. Of course, the
sun is actually a star, and the moon is a natural satellite which
orbits the earth. The sun and the moon perform the same function
in astrology as planets. That is, they cause action to occur.
Their position in a chart shows us what is happening. It is just
easier to call them planets than to always say, "the planets
and the sun and moon".
Shown
below are the glyphs, or letters of the astrological alphabet,
for the planets:
Sun |
Mercury |
Venus |
Moon |
Earth |
Mars |
Jupiter |
Saturn |
Uranus |
Neptune |

The
planets send their gifts to humanity for the purpose of our evolution.
Please thank them the next time you see them in the sky.
Modern
astrologers often also take into consideration the positions of
Chiron, several asteroids,
the part of fortune, and the north and
south nodes of the moon.
